| MIKE KLINGNER - friend, son, husband, patriot, soldier. It was my privilege to have known Mike as a child and watch him develop into the great man he was. Mike was a boy anyone would have been proud to claim as their son. He was a role model for all who knew him. His passions were music, adventure and flying. As the drummer in his bands, The Rebels and later The Bumbles, he loved giving pleasure to others. His smile, his rosy cheeks, his sparkling eyes, his handsome face, his zest for life, his sense of responsibility and citizenship must never die and be forgotten. I was governor of Nebraska when I last saw Mike. He was at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln earning a degree in political science. Mike called to see me at the Governor's Mansion and urge me to seek a seat in the US. Senate. He pledge his support if I would decide to run. This young man, who had so much to give and live for, gave his life in a war, which should never have been fought. A war which McNamara, one of its chief architects, now tells us was waged on false information and failure of heads of state to communicate. WE must never again send the flowers of our youth to die in a war based on falsehood. It breaks my heart to think of all the young men and women, like Mike, who gave their all in that war. Therefore I pledge, there must be an eternal legacy of Mike Klingner, our friend. Frank B. Morrison, Sr. Governor of Nebraska 1961-1967 |
