Our Purpose
“Buffalo Commons” describes that short grass country in southwest Nebraska, northwest Kansas, and eastern Colorado where the Lakota, the Omaha, the Arapahoe, the Kiowa, the Cheyenne and the Pawnee harvested the great buffalo herds.
Prairie peoples have been imprinted by the land’s horizons, its deep roots, rivers, canyons and Loess hills. It is a place Where ordinary rnen and wornen live extraordinary lives.
The festival is dedicated to the preservation, enhancement, and sharing of the stories of our place and our people, stories of patriotism, hard Work, sacrifice and inspiration. We believe that, next to God and family, stories are our greatest treasure.
Festival 1997 won the Nebraska Department of Tourism and Travel Industry’s Outstanding Event of the Year, and Nebraska’s Commission on Rural Development and the Library of Congress have recognized the festival’s excellence.
